The Gym Group Flexes Its Muscles With Opening in Portsmouth

The site previously played host to Portsmouth Football Club and has been unused since the club moved four years ago. The space has now been regenerated to provide a brand new 24 hour gym for the area, opening in November.

The Gym Group’s mission is to make health and fitness facilities accessible and affordable to everyone, and like the other 67 gyms in the Group, unashamedly, The Gym Portsmouth Fratton will not offer the add-ons that members don’t use or want to pay for like towels, plush carpets and café areas.

Andy Hellier, Director at Portsmouth-based commercial property consultants Hellier Langston, commented: “We have been involved in the site since Portsmouth Football Club vacated in 2011. A number of enquiries were received from developers, but it has been a great to see an occupier of the calibre of The Gym Group show interest in what is a very prominent site within the city and the Fratton area. With The Gym opening and the Tesco superstore on the adjoining site, it is really encouraging to see an important area of the city regenerated and the employment it will create.”
